AI-POD project was featured at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2025, showcasing the transformative potential of  AI in clinical decision-making. The project was presented as part of the session titled “Intelligence at Work: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Clinical Decision-Making,” alongside  projects RadioVal and ODELIA. The session took place on 1 March 2025, from 16:00 to 17:30 CET, and sparked important discussions on the evolving role of AI in healthcare. The session was led by two eminent experts: Prof. Dr. med. Wiebke Fenske from BG University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum and Prof. Ben Glocker from Imperial College London.

Prof. Fenske opened the discussion by addressing the alarming rise of obesity and its direct link to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This formed the backdrop for the AI-POD project, which aims to predict individual obesity-related CVD risks through advanced AI techniques, incorporating real-life monitoring into the risk assessment process.

AI-POD’s pioneering approach combines AI with real-world data to generate personalised and precise risk profiles for patients. By utilising these advanced tools, the project offers a promising leap towards more accurate, patient-centred care in the management of obesity and cardiovascular risk.

Prof. Glocker followed with an in-depth presentation on the development of the AI-POD risk score. He explained how AI-POD is enhancing existing tools, focusing on capturing segmentation uncertainty and applying novel machine learning methods. These developments are integral to the AI-POD risk score, which will improve both the accuracy and reliability of cardiovascular risk assessments.

AI-POD’s presence at ECR 2025 showcases its potential to transform clinical practices with advanced tools for more accurate, timely decision-making.
